Dr. Eirini Liotou (https://eliotou.dit.people.hua.gr/) is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Informatics and Telematics, Harokopio University of Athens (pending official appointment). She holds a PhD degree from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2017). She obtained the MSc in Informatics and Telecommunications from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2011) and the MSc in Communications and Signal Processing from the Imperial College of London (2012). She received the Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in 2006. She has worked as a Software Engineer at Siemens AG and as a Senior Software Engineer at Siemens Enterprise Communications in the R&D department (2007-2011). Between 2017 and 2021, she worked as a Post-Doc researcher in the Communication Networks Laboratory of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Between 2021 and 2023, she has been working as a Project Manager / Senior Researcher for EU Research Projects at the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS), serving as Deputy Project Coordinator of EU projects.

Traditionally, communication networks have been designed with Quality of Service (QoS) criteria in mind. Quality of Experience (QoE) has, however, emerged as a breakthrough concept, following the strong transition that the networking industry is experiencing from system-centric networks to more user-centric solutions. Motivated by this boost towards user-centricity, the objective of this talk is to present the challenges and opportunities that arise in modern communication networks when QoE is considered. In this direction, the notion of QoE is explained along with its influence factors, while QoE estimation models and metrics are explored in order to quantify QoE and thus, improve existing network mechanisms or propose novel ones. The proposal of a QoE provisioning cycle that allows the control, monitoring (i.e., modeling) and management of QoE in a mobile network will be discussed.
